Despite GOP Claims, Tax Rates Continue to Sink

Despite loads of misinformation from the Right that tax rates, both personal and corporate, are oppressively high, a light shines through. The Washington Post reported today that stats from 2009 indicate that Americans are paying the lowest tax rate in 30 years (so where are the jobs supply-siders?).

To be noted, a large contributor to this decline was the marked drop in household income from 2007 to 2009. But the main factor, perhaps surprising to most Republicans, is Obama’s “Making Work Pay” tax credit, a component of the stimulus package, which reduced taxes targeted at lower and middle-income people.

Also, remember when Mitch McConnell said this in 1990?

I haven’t voted for one of these lousy budget packages for years and I won’t vote for this one. It would raise taxes on the wrong people. Unlike some folks around here I think everyone should pay their fair share. Including the rich. We need to protect our seniors from Medicare cuts too.
