In a recent interview with AARP, Romney responded to concerns about our aging population and the current economic climate. But one question (“what would you do to create conditions that will help and grow America’s middle class?”) prompted some mis-information that has already been duly lanced. First, Romney’s answer:
The middle class has struggled through the recession and continues to face a difficult road ahead in this economy. Economic growth that supports job creation, and keeping the tax burden on middle-class families low, will help get our country back on solid footing.
But as the Tax Policy Center reported, his tax reform proposal would actually raise taxes on the middle-class. Though Romney repudiated the findings as “garbage,” TPC stands by their research, and even issued a Q-and-A yesterday clarifying the study. As you can see above, the Obama team is putting the numbers to good use.
