And it arrives at a critical time. With 42 days to go before the election, with restrictive voting laws already passed in 19 states with 218 electoral votes, with 27 restrictive voting laws pending in 6 other states, with more abusive voter-ID laws, limits on voter-registration drives, closed early-voting windows, and with fewer voting precincts and longer lines, the Agenda Project has launched its second iteration of Top Wonks, a compendium of the top public policy minds in the country. This newest edition features experts on subjects such as voter eligibility, the Electoral College, provisional ballots, voting technology, super PACs, and a lot more.
What was the impetus for the project? As explained in its press release:
At a time when flawed scholarship and theory plague our media waves and public policy, Top Wonks seeks to highlight the BEST thinkers and experts in an interactive, searchable directory so that you can find the right expert instantly!
As you well know, one of the greatest challenges to our democracy is a flawed political system that stymies participation, and promotes the interests of the wealthy few over the concerns of the public at large. From an often partisan electoral re-districting system, to the grotesque distortion created by post-Citizen United campaign finance, a democracy by the people, for the people is under attack. We hope Top Wonks can help bring our democracy and our economy back!
The site itself is clean and intuitive, a necessity if, like us on the DA, the media cycle commands your political work. Give it a spin! You can also check out the Wonk Wire on the right-side of this page, which provides frequent Twitter updates on the Wonks’ most recent ideas and opinions on public policy and American politics.
