According to the Congressional Research Service, 2,362 millionaires received a total of $20.8 million in unemployment benefits in 2009. Rather than lambaste the millionaires who accepted said benefits, Republicans are using the data as a dagger against supposed out-of-control spending. But as the HuffPost pointed out:
[These millionaires account] for just 0.02 percent of all unemployment benefit income and representing 0.02 percent of all recipients… Eliminating unemployment benefits for millionaires would do almost nothing to decrease the $1 trillion federal budget deficit.
